Rice River Farms^® History

Rice River Farms® is the retail line offered by Chieftain Wild Rice Company. Chieftain has been in the wild rice business for over 40 years. The Rice River Farms® product line was developed in 1994 after numerous requests from chefs whose customers wanted to buy their stock of Chieftain products. The Rice River Farm’s line of wild rice and wild rice blends was developed specifically for the specialty food industry. The Rice River Farms® product line includes six blends with a seasoning packet and our 100% Minnesota grown Premium wild rice.

Unlike many wild rice companies, we do grow our own wild rice in Minnesota. It is specially processed so that when it is cooked, it has a wonderful nutty aroma and flavor and a very high yield. Each ten ounce package of wild rice blend makes between 3½ to 5½ cups of cooked rice.

Rice River Farms® is an easy product to sell because of colorful packaging and the highest quality ingredients used to make the blends. The fact that water is the only thing needed to cook the product is also an excellent selling point.
