Touted as the hottest chile pepper in the world this chile is so named for its ghostly bite. The Ghost Chile is a species of chile pepper native to North Eastern India and goes by several names including Bhut Jolokia (poison chile pepper) and Naga Jolokia. The Ghost Pepper has been measured at 855,000 Scoville units and up to 1,041,427 units by an Indian export company. The Ghost Chile is twice as hot as the Red Savina and when ripe the Ghost Chile is similar looking to the Dorset Naga. Richly colored in orange and red the Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Chile) looks similar to the Habanero pepper with the exception of their rugged skin. Bhut Jolokia range in size from 60 to 85 mm long and up to 30 mm. wide. Use in pickled dishes, sauces, curries and vegetarian dishes. Use them just like you would a Habanero just remember they are at least five times as hot! Use gloves when handling these peppers… they reportedly have been used to make tear gas and have been used as weapons.

The Bhut Jolokia is twice as hot as the Red Savina (350,000-577,000 Scoville units) and is similar looking to the Dorset Naga.
