Jalapeno [hah-lah-PEH-nyoh] Chile Powder is made from grinding whole Jalapenos, seeds and pod both. Jalapeno Pepper is a small to moderate sized pepper that is prized for its warmth. These thick, leathery dark green or red chiles contain quite a bit of heat! It is one of the most common chile peppers in the U.S. When smoked it is called a Chipotle. The Jalapeno Pepper is named after the town of Jalapa in the state of Veracruz in Mexico. The whole Jalapeno is about 2-3 inches long and 1 to 1 ½ inches wide, bright to dull green in color, they turn a deep red when left on the vine to mature. Scoville heat units 2,500to 8,000.
